Recycle strangling vines in London. The pieces on show are all prototypes exploring a new design vocabulary that involves combining traditional woven Apuí fibre with cheap plastic chairs, crude timber constructions and steel structures.

The fibre used, Apuí, suffocates the trees in Brazilian forests and TransPlastic makes an analogy with this, as the woven fibre appears to be smothering the plastic furniture beneath.

The Tenri Institute has a nice gallery in its digs on 13th St, of course they also have their own City in Japan so this religious sect with several million members is certainly well heeled. In any case German Artist Brodo Korsig certainly brought out the curators and collectors for his show there last Friday. It has some starkly beautiful pieces that fit in well with the space and some other easily collectible ones. The artist also brims with naughty stories. Represented by Cynthia Broan Gallery.

Inside Outside with Petra

Petra Blaise revisits the Storefront for Art Architecture to celebrate the launch of her book: ‘Inside Outside’. Petra’s seminal installation at the Storefront in 2001 tied up the entire building in fabric and planted grass in the sidewalk cushions. Also in attendance was Sarah Herda, the former Director and now the Director of the Graham Foundation in beautiful but cold Chicago.

Wang Jin gets Married

Another Chinese artist worth looking out for isn Wang Jin. Wang is from Shanxi Province and graduated from the the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts and later taught at the Beijing Institute of Fashion Design. His current exhibition at the Friedman Benda Gallery in New York was just written up in the Financial Times.

This time from a New York Artist, Angela DeRosette, who has developed a unique method of painting using arcylics. Very Striking and very large. All self portraits and all sold out at Gallery Ramis Barquet here in NYC. The Show was called Don’t get too Close.
